I would to heaven that I were so much clay,

    As I am blood, bone, marrow, passion, feeling—
3
Because at least the past were pass'd away—
4
    And for the future—(but I write this reeling,
5
Having got drunk exceedingly to-day,
6
    So that I seem to stand upon the ceiling)
7
I say—the future is a serious matter—
8
And so—for God's sake—hock and soda water!
